A Self-Sufficient's Guide to Asking for Help
I hate asking for help. I get tense and uncomfortable. Not only do I not like to admit my own fallibility, I struggle to trust anyone else to do what I want, how I want.
This mindset makes life (ostensibly) more in my control, but getting sh*t done is slow, arduous and overwhelming.
Working on my solo show 'The Ex-Boyfriend Yard Sale' was first time I properly began OUTSOURCING tasks associated with a project -- the first time I asked for HELP. The results were fantastic (reviews & info about book here, but also I enjoyed it more).
If you, like me, struggle to seek support, here are:
5 reasons to bear the discomfort and get some extra hands on deck:
Outsourcing saves your energy and brain space, which you can then devote to the aspects of your creative project (and life) that fulfil you.
When you involve more people in a project, you build community around it and in turn a wider audience for it.
You are not an expert on everything. Asking for help or outsourcing a task allows others to do what they're good at and feel valued.
It gives you a chance to practice letting go. Keep showing up for the life-long challenge to relinquish control... I hear it makes life better.
Things get done FASTER. Yippee. Momentum!
